About Loko Dhoch

A place where what no longer serves life can be turned, released and reorganised.

Loko Dhoch is a Luo expression carried here as a practice of redirecting an unwanted condition so it does not continue organising the future.

Our working meaning

We do not pass harm onward. We meet it, understand what it has been protecting, and release its claim on the life that follows.

In this body of work, Loko Dhoch names the movement through which limiting narratives, inherited burdens, emotional residues and survival patterns are recognised and redirected rather than transferred to another person or generation.

The practice works with people and institutions. Sometimes the repeating pattern is personal. Sometimes it has become a culture, a governance habit, a public narrative or an inherited way of holding power and resources.

Our work therefore asks two connected questions: What must no longer travel with us? What capacity must become stronger so the desired change can remain?

Our institutional home

Owned and held by HelpHeal Foundation.

HelpHeal Foundation provides the governance, safeguarding, contracting, programme coordination and learning systems within which Loko Dhoch is offered. The practice expresses the Foundation's purpose of bringing out the best in individuals, communities and organisations so that communities can thrive.

The tools have been developed through Otieno P. Odongo's practice and HelpHeal's years of accompaniment with people, organisations and movements. Authorship is honoured. Institutional responsibility rests with HelpHeal Foundation.

Making communities thrive by strengthening what people and institutions can hold.
